In Viva
Vivaldi, the minimalist stage design uses texture and light to
great effect. The music was fabulously choreographed, and the
corps was not outgunned by the soloists, so I found myself
seeking out one member in particular who was pure sunshine.
The third movement didn't really seem to pop for me, although
it had the consummate professionalism that marked the whole
show. Calvin Kitten in particular went a bit unappreciated by
the audience on account of it, and I would have liked to see a
stronger committment to the Spanish theme, but it was
certainly pleasant.
Lilac Garden, like all Tudor works, had a lullaby effect on
me, what with the watercolour worlds he creates. The set was
as eternal and immense as mirrors facing one another, but I
couldn't keep my eyes open to save my life. |
